Relational & contemplative approach

Transparent
Communication

A practice of presence, deep listening and authentic relating — to transform the way we meet, speak and listen to one another.

What is Transparent Communication?

Transparent Communication is a relational and contemplative approach developed by Thomas Hübl, a spiritual teacher and author widely recognised for his work on collective trauma healing. For more than twenty years, he has trained therapists, teachers and practitioners around the world.

Unlike classical communication models based on techniques or scripts, Transparent Communication starts from a deeper premise: the quality of our presence shapes the quality of our exchanges. What we say matters — but the inner state from which we speak and listen matters even more.

When we are fully present to ourselves — our sensations, emotions and reactive patterns — we become capable of meeting others differently: with less defensiveness, more curiosity, more genuine contact.

Where does Transparent Communication come from?

Thomas Hübl

Thomas Hübl is an Austrian-born spiritual teacher whose work sits at the intersection of contemporary mysticism, trauma science and personal development. He is the author of Healing Collective Trauma and the founder of the Academy of Inner Science.

His Transparent Communication approach grew out of decades of retreats and training programmes — including the Timeless Wisdom Training — where he observed that relational difficulties are often a reflection of unintegrated inner fragmentation.

The Pocket Project

The Pocket Project is a non-profit organisation founded by Thomas Hübl. Its mission: to contribute to the healing of collective and ancestral trauma worldwide. The Pocket Project supports practitioners and communities in building trauma-sensitive cultures of care.

The French-language Transparent Communication practice group — co-facilitated by Alexandra Kalinine, Claude Terosier and Miriam Nelken — takes place within this framework.

“Healing is not something we do alone. It happens in relationship — in the quality of presence we bring to our exchanges, our conflicts, our silences.”

— Thomas Hübl

The principles of Transparent Communication

1

Presence as foundation

Transparent Communication begins with a return to oneself. Before speaking, we learn to notice what is happening inside: a tension in the body, a resistance, an emotion seeking expression. This inner awareness is the ground from which a true and meaningful word can emerge.

2

Deep listening

Listening is more than hearing words. Deep listening includes what is said between the lines: posture, the rhythm of the voice, what is trying to emerge but has not yet found language. Practising Transparent Communication means developing this quality of attention — towards others and towards oneself.

3

Relational attunement

Attunement is the capacity to stay in contact with oneself while opening to another — without merging, without closing off. It is the art of being two distinct people in authentic relation. Transparent Communication cultivates this delicate space, so often missing from our everyday exchanges.

4

Nervous system regulation

Our relational reactions — defensiveness, withdrawal, overwhelm — are often signs of an activated nervous system, not a lack of goodwill. Transparent Communication integrates regulation practices to help body and mind remain stable when facing what can be difficult to hear or to say.

5

Relationship as a field of healing

According to Thomas Hübl, trauma — personal, familial or collective — deposits itself in our relational patterns. Healing therefore also happens through relationship. Being truly seen, heard and welcomed without judgement: these experiences, when genuinely felt, carry a profound transformative power.

Who is Transparent Communication for?

Transparent Communication is for anyone wishing to deepen the quality of their relationships — professional, family or intimate — and explore what is really happening in their exchanges with others.

It is particularly valuable for those who:

  • · find it hard to express what they feel without becoming defensive or withdrawing
  • · often feel misunderstood in close relationships
  • · want to go beyond communication techniques and work at a deeper level
  • · are therapists, coaches or teachers wishing to refine their relational presence
  • · experience recurring conflicts and are looking for a more conscious approach
  • · are drawn to the work of Thomas Hübl and wish to practise in a group setting

No prior experience is required. The practice unfolds in the moment, with whatever each person brings.
